Visual Communication and Design

VCD 1

Class Overview
The overall goal of this class is to go over the foundations of 2D, 3D, 4D, and 5D design in one cumulative space. We bring all of their ideas and methods together while also introducing what it means to be a Visual Communicator and Designer. Looking at work spaces, ethics, semiotics, and learning to collaborate on important projects.
My Projects
In summary, this class consisted of 4 main projects with practice exercises in before each one to prepare for the next. Below are the main projects in chronological order, with project 3 having two parts.
Observing the Environment
Project 1
Objective: In any chosen subject, construct a 3-panel communication using the word (juxtaposition, disambiguation, or POV) and corresponding images.

Dimensions: 12”H x 16”W
Image and Word Pairing
Project 2
Objective: In any chosen subject, construct a 4-panel communication using a word pair and corresponding images. The final presentation is an accordion fold book.

Environmental Graphic Design
Project 3

Part 1:
Wall Graphic for Physical Environment: Choose one wall in the house and apply spray-painted type treatment showing “before” and “after” images.

Part 2:
Background Wallpaper Design for Virtual Environment Objective: Create a background illustration wallpaper that will best show your zoom presences as a casual, young adult, college student. The work must be either pastiche (imitate), homage (public acknowledgment) or parody (exaggeration for comic effect).
